FAIRFAX COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, Springfield, VA
1/08 – Present

Springfield District Supervisor

Elected to represent the Springfield District in his first run for political office in 2007, with 59 percent of the vote in a very difficult year for Republicans. He was reelected in 2011 with over 97 percent of the vote and again in 2015 with over 80 percent of the vote. He represents and serves over 125,000 citizens in the Springfield District. A recognized leader on the Board of Supervisors.

Selected Accomplishments:

  • After terms as Treasurer and on the Executive Committee, I was asked to launch an effort for the Government Contractors. Grew the Government Contractors Council to over one third of the Chambers’ membership and income.
  • Led the establishment of the Government Contractor Awards program. This annual event is attended by approximately 800 business leaders and is cosponsored by the Gov Con Council, Washington technology magazine and the Professional Services Council.
  • Led a successful effort to change the sales tax laws to change the way Virginia taxes government contractors that is different than all other states and has resulted in federal contracting work leaving Virginia.
  • Founded a committee called Transportation Choices to advocate for the mass transit and carpool benefits of the Beltway HOT lanes.
  • Co-drafter of the Transportation Compact in 1999. The Compact was the first time the business community signed on to a single transportation agenda.
  • Received the Chairman’s Award in 2003

Selected Accomplishments:

  • Led the formation of the CFO (Chief Financial Officers) Forum to provide CFOs in the technology space the opportunity to network, access venture capitalists and other financial sources, and to celebrate success in the technology industry.
  • Member of the team that founded the CFO Awards program recognizing outstanding CFOs and Financiers. Traveled to Maryland and DC in order to make this a regional awards program.
  • Founded the Transportation/Telework Committee and helped make Transportation a technology company issue. One of the first to advocate for Telework as a partial solution to our transportation problems. Worked in partnership with Maryland and DC based groups to push for the Techway.
  • Helped drive the first annual Greater Washington Conference on Telework and served on the first Steering Committee.
  • Receive the CFO of the Year Community Service Award (1998) and the Presidents Award (2003).

Incorporated and co-founded Potomac Inline Hockey after a previous league failed financially, then served on its Board of Directors and as Treasurer for the first two years.  Have served as coach of inline teams at three levels some seasons.  In 2005, founded a House Select Team in order to give house level players the opportunity to reach travel level hockey.

Stepped in to coach a spring ice hockey team because the league was short coaches for the season. Continued to serve as assistant coach for several spring and winter seasons.
